Private Client Solicitor

Remuneration: Competitive
Full time
Permanent based in Morpeth and Hexham

Established in 1770, Brumell & Sample is well respected and has a long history for providing sound and dependable legal services to individuals, families and some small businesses in Morpeth and surrounding Northumberland. Because of this, we have come to be a trusted adviser for our clients and strive to ensure our client service is of a high standard at all times.

We are looking for an experienced private client lawyer with at least 3 years’ PQE and preferably STEP qualified with a demonstrable track record, who is dedicated to this area of law, technically sound and has capability to understand and communicate complex matters with a degree of empathy. You must have a real passion to make a difference.

We don’t set any criteria for your professional background or law firm experience. We enjoy and thrive on the diversity of our employee’s background and previous work life. We don’t mind whether you come from a city, regional or local firm, or whether you went to a top university or a community college, or even whether you had a previous career in something else; we just want to know that you achieved high and gained valuable experience.

The role will include:

• Dealing with Wills, probate, Lasting Powers of Attorney, court of protection, estate administration, estate planning, tax planning for lifetime tax issues from income tax to inheritance tax within the UK and internationally and Will disputes.
• Dealing with and taking responsibility for a varied caseload.
• Developing a client base and maintaining relationships whilst always delivering a strong client-focussed service.
• Involvement in networking, both online and in person, marketing and arranging promotional events.
• Any other tasks as and when required.

Residential Conveyancer

Remuneration: Competitive

Part time or full time considered

Permanent based in Morpeth, Northumberland

Brumell & Sample have been providing legal services for the people of Northumberland since 1770 providing a complete and comprehensive service to companies, individuals and families for all of their legal and financial requirements.  We support a broad range of clients, with a responsive, seamless, discrete and high-quality solution for all of their requirements.

We are actively seeking a dynamic residential conveyancing fee earner to deliver high quality advice to clients on all aspects of the conveyancing process.  The successful candidate will manage a varied caseload of freehold and leasehold transactions to include: sales and purchases; help to buy; remortgages; new builds and buy to let.

In addition, they will be expected to make an active contribution to business development, building and maintaining client relationships and promoting the services of the practice as a whole.

The successful candidate must be available to work between 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday.

The ideal candidate will be:

  • A Solicitor, Legal Executive or Paralegal with a minimum of 2 years’ PQE who is technically competent with solid residential conveyancing experience;
  • Smart and well presented;
  • Professional with strong communication skills and a client focussed approach;
  • Able to work without supervision;
  • Proficient in IT;
  • Diligent, dedicated and detail orientated;
  • Flexible with a “can do” attitude who is able to work under pressure and to tight deadlines; and
  • Enthusiastic, well organised with a positive attitude and a willingness to learn.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Researching information and communicating with clients and others in person, on the phone and in writing;
  • Using a computerised case management system as efficiently as possible;
  • Taking instructions from clients and third parties;
  • Seeking to protect clients’ interests at all times whilst talking precautions against potential fraud and money laundering;
  • Sending comprehensive terms of engagement and estimates of fees/disbursements;
  • Obtaining and/or checking Land Registry title deeds and documents;
  • Drafting, checking and finalising legal and/or financial documents relevant to the transaction and agreeing terms;
  • Dealing with all financial aspects of a transaction, including time recording;
  • Exchanging contracts and completing a transaction;
  • Obtaining landlord’s consent to transaction and dealing with apportionments of rent and service charges (if applicable);
  • Being prepared to take on additional responsibilities subject to the correct training; and
  • Any other tasks as and when required.
